Job Description

The Area Claims Supervisor (ACS) is responsible for the oversight and management of Crop Insurance Adjusters in the territory included in their region. The ACS reports directly to the Claims Manager (CM). This position is involved in maintaining a strong working knowledge of regulatory rules and company regulations and procedures. Must exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance and/or confidentiality. This position may travel two (2) weeks at a time and may include travel to areas outside the assigned territory, state, or region.

Essential functions and responsibilities:
• Maintain an effective claims structure for assigned territory
• Communicate with and support the Compliance Department including providing personnel when needed (i.e. Adjuster training)
• Communicate with and support the Marketing team as needed
• Oversee Loss Adjuster Expenses (LAE) to remain within budget expectations and promptly communicate challenges or issues
• Assist in developing, executing and adjusting the Claims structure within territory to meet market changes/demands
• Assist in managing succession plans for Adjusters in assigned territory
• Manage area Adjusters for Multi-Peril and Crop Hail insurance products
• Develop and implement training for Adjusters
• Conduct two (2) Adjuster performance evaluations per year per Adjuster in their territory and file reviews in accordance with ProAg’s Training and Performance Evaluation Plan (TPEP)
• Effectively collaborate with CM on the common managerial duties of hiring, disciplinary action, performance management, etc. and assist with any necessary actions associated with those duties
• Responsible for Adjuster communication in the field; ensure employees check and respond to email daily and other forms of communication
• Follow procedures when handling calls from Agents on regulatory issues and problem claims
• Communicate timely with Agents, insureds, and all ProAg personnel
• Demonstrate best practices and desired behaviors when dealing with problem claims, issue resolution, and training
• Effectively exhibit and model professional behavior in all work and work-related activities
• Ensure adjusting staff is performing at a high level to include meeting deadlines, thoroughly following procedures, and representing ProAg in good fashion
• Assign claims and inspections in the system to Adjusters the same day notice is received
• Assist in the process of setting reserves
• Provide training and guidance with problem claims
• Ensure all field claims activities are conducted in compliance with ProAg, State and Federal standards
• Partner with Underwriting as needed to resolve errors coming from the field
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of regulatory rules and company regulations and procedures
• Responsible for the promotion and execution of ProAg business strategies including implementation and training of ProAg internal operating systems and software
• Review an appropriate number of claims per Adjuster per year before they are sent for processing or are paid
• Provide claims processing support as needed
• Provide, promote and support system expertise for Adjusters as issues arise
• Build and maintain internal and external customer satisfaction with claims processing through effective claims handling and follow-up
• Assist Adjusters in resolving complex or sensitive disagreements, conflicts, and claims
• Exercise best judgment on escalating controversial and complex claims to Claims Manager
• Challenge and guide adjusters to employ higher level problem-solving skills and seek the most effective solution for all parties involved
• Act as first point of contact around Agent concerns or questions; providing the answer or a contact to help resolve any issues outside of one’s control

Job Requirements

Qualifications required:
• Current CAPP (Claim Adjuster Proficiency Program) certification and any applicable license required by State agencies
• Three (3) years of crop insurance experience in claims or compliance
• Ability to manage a large territory with multiple direct reports
• Proficient in basic computer and internet applications
• Experience with all MPCI, Crop Hail, and Federal Crop rules and regulations
• Demonstrated ability to work from home office
• Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with employees and customers
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in daily operations
• Ability to conduct daily duties in a professional appearance and manner
• Reliable means of transportation with the ability to travel within assigned territory
• Excellent customer service skills

Qualifications desired:
• Degree in Agriculture
• Previous crop insurance management experience
• Previous experience with claims adjusting software
• Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail
• Strong technological skills

Nonessential skills and experience:
• Other duties and projects may be assigned
